(NEWSnet) – The Federal Aviation Administration expects next week to be the busiest travel week of spring break season, hitting a peak on April 4.

There are more than 50,600 flights scheduled for April 4, its report said, slightly above the 50,000 flights that were scheduled for March 28.

Easter is March 31 this year, with many K-12 school and university spring breaks are scheduled just before or just after that holiday. This year, the solar eclipse of April 8 is adding another bump to spring travel schedules as some people have made plans to fly into one of the states that will experience the eclipse.

To show the travel surge, the FAA has charted out a flight number schedule for April 3-9 that shows traffic picking up April 3, 4 and 5; dropping off April 6; and then picking up again April 7, 8 and 9. The numbers are as follows:

  • April 3: 47,978 flights.
  • April 4: 50,670 flights.
  • April 5: 48,904 flights.
  • April 6: 39,722 flights.
  • April 7: 44,193 flights.
  • April 8: 47,137 flights. (The day of the eclipse)
  • April 9: 46,943 flights.

“The FAA reminds spring break travelers to be patient, give themselves extra time at the airport, and pack safely,” the announcement said.
