Rosters Set for 2024 Congressional Baseball Game
WASHINGTON (NEWSnet) – Dozens of Congressional representatives are on the roster for the annual Democrat-Republican baseball game at Nationals Park.
First pitch for the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
John Walton and Chad Pergram will call the game, to be broadcast live on Fox Sports and C-SPAN.
This year’s team roster includes Linda Sanchez of California and Bill Pascrell of New Jersey coaching for the Democrats and Roger Williams coaching for the Republicans.
The annual event started in 1909, with members of U.S. Congress from each of the two major parties facing off on the field, the event’s official website said. By 1928, the game had gained so much attention it was covered on local radio.
Despite some interruptions because of World War II and other reasons, the bipartisan tradition has continued.
There is now an affiliated foundation called Congressional Sports for Charity. The proceeds support Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Nationals Philanthropies and Washington Literacy Center.
Last year’s event raised over $1.8 million for charities.
